This bill enacts the "Tennessee Future Teacher Scholarship Act of 2023", which establishes a five-year pilot program administered by the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) to award scholarships to eligible students enrolled in approved educator preparation programs at eligible postsecondary institutions. The scholarship is available to students who are eligible for the Tennessee HOPE scholarship, maintain a minimum GPA, and agree to teach in a targeted setting (a Tennessee public school located in a distressed or at-risk county, or a subject area with a critical shortage) for at least four consecutive years after graduation. The bill sets forth the eligibility requirements, scholarship amounts, and reimbursement provisions for students who do not fulfill their teaching commitment. The Office of Research and Education Accountability will review and study the effectiveness of the scholarship program.
