This bill establishes the Economic Transition Division within the New Mexico Economic Development Department. The division will provide support and funding for communities and workers transitioning away from natural resource extraction industries, such as by identifying funding sources, coordinating state and federal efforts, and administering an Economic Transition Fund to provide grants and loans. The bill also creates an Economic Transition Action Plan, requires workforce impact assessments, and appropriates funds to the new division and the Sustainable Economy Task Force and Advisory Council. The overall goal is to support disproportionately impacted communities, communities in transition, and workers in transition during the economic shift away from fossil fuel and other extractive industries.
