This bill amends the education law to require all public elementary and high schools in New York to include a unit of instruction covering Asian American and Pacific Islander history as a required curriculum in each grade from kindergarten through 12th grade, starting in the 2024-2025 school year. The instruction must include the history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in New York, their accomplishments, their role in the construction of the Continental Railroad, and their contributions to the cultural, political, social, and economic development of the United States. The Commissioner of Education is responsible for providing assistance in developing age-appropriate curriculum, adopting rules for the curriculum, making educational materials available, and enforcing the provisions of this section.
