This bill provides for exemptions from sales tax for energy-star qualified appliances and grants municipalities the option to provide such exemption. Specifically, it amends the tax law to exempt the retail sales of certain energy-star qualified products, such as clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, and air conditioners, from the state sales tax. It also allows cities with a population of one million or more to enact a resolution to provide the same energy-star product exemption from local sales and compensating use taxes. The bill is set to take effect on April 1, 2024 and expire on April 1, 2029.
