Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to certification of fetal death certificates by a midwife or physician assistant
AI Summary
This bill amends the public health law to allow midwives and physician assistants, in addition to physicians and nurse practitioners, to certify the cause of death on a fetal death certificate if they were in attendance at or after the fetal death. The bill also removes the provision that nurse-midwives cannot certify the cause of death on a fetal death certificate. This change provides more flexibility in who can certify fetal deaths and help ensure accurate and timely reporting of this information.
