This bill would prohibit the use of a person's credit history as part of the application process for a rental housing accommodation that receives government rent subsidy, unless the applicant is given the option to provide alternative evidence of their ability to pay the portion of the rent they are responsible for, such as government benefit payments, pay records, or bank statements. If the applicant chooses to provide this alternative evidence, the housing provider would be required to reasonably consider it in lieu of the applicant's credit history when determining whether to offer the rental accommodation.
