This bill amends the Public Officers Law to require that any person appointed as a paid member of the police force in a city with a population of one million or more must become a resident of any political subdivision or municipal corporation within such city within one year of their appointment and continue to reside in any such area. The bill also provides an exemption for current police, fire department, and corrections officers employed in a city with a population over one million, allowing them to maintain their current residence. Additionally, the bill changes the residency requirement for police officers appointed prior to January 1, 2024, from residing in the county as of July 1, 1961 to residing in the county as of January 1, 2024.
