This bill, titled the "Dr. Michael C. Burgess Preventive Health Savings Act," aims to amend the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 to allow the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director to consider the long-term budgetary savings from preventive health care interventions when estimating the costs of proposed legislation. Specifically, the bill authorizes the CBO Director, upon request, to determine if proposed legislation would result in net reductions in budget outlays in future years through the use of preventive health care. If the Director makes such a determination, the Director can include a description and estimate of the reductions in the budget projection, even if they extend beyond the typical 10-year budget window. However, these estimates would be used only as supplementary information and would not be used to determine compliance with budget rules.
