This bill amends the Vehicle and Traffic Law to require school bus drivers and attendants who transport "preschool children" (as defined in the Education Law) to complete training in the needs of such children. The bill also allows counties, in addition to school districts, to review the qualifications of school bus attendants and use certain criteria related to criminal convictions when determining their suitability. The training and instruction requirements must be provided at least once per year and the bill sets a compliance deadline of July 1, 2024 for school bus attendants serving preschool children.
