AI Summary

This bill establishes alternative expiration and renewal periods for handgun permits issued to retired law enforcement officers in the state of Maryland. Specifically, the bill states that a handgun permit issued to a retired law enforcement officer who retired in good standing will expire 7 years after the date of issuance, rather than the standard 2-year expiration period. Additionally, these permits can be renewed for successive 5-year periods, as opposed to the standard 3-year renewal period for other permit holders. The bill seeks to provide modified requirements for retired law enforcement officers who are authorized to carry handguns under state law.
