AI Summary

This bill proposes several changes to the job duties and salaries of public school employees in Maryland. It establishes a minimum salary of $60,000 for all public school employees starting in 2026, and mandates certain salary increases for "qualified educators" (public school employees who provide direct instruction or services to students) who receive National Board Certification or an approved alternative credential, or who are assigned to low-performing schools. The bill also modifies the duties of assistant principals, requiring them to spend at least 20% of their time leading academic instruction for students. Additionally, the bill removes a requirement for county boards to select certain teachers to write curriculum and assessment plans, making this optional once the statewide teacher career ladder system is well-established.
