This bill requires executive departments and public bodies in New Mexico to collect voluntary self-identification information on sexual orientation and gender identity as part of their demographic data collection efforts. The data collected must be reported to the legislature and made publicly available, except for personal identifying information, which will be kept confidential. The data cannot be reported in a way that would permit identification of individuals or result in statistical unreliability. The information can only be used for demographic analysis, coordination of care, quality improvement, approved research, fulfilling reporting requirements, or guiding policy or funding decisions. The bill takes effect on October 31, 2023.
