This bill creates a new section in KRS Chapter 141 to establish a refundable income tax credit of $1,000 for active volunteer firefighters in Kentucky. The purpose of the credit is to increase the number of active volunteer firefighters in the Commonwealth. The bill requires the Department of Revenue to provide annual reports to the Legislative Research Commission on the impact of the credit, including the number of taxpayers claiming the credit, the total amount of credits claimed, and the distribution of credits by county and income range. The Kentucky Fire Commission is required to provide the Department of Revenue with an annual list of certified volunteer firefighters. The bill also amends KRS 141.0205 to provide the ordering of the credit and KRS 131.190 to allow confidential tax return information to be shared with the Legislative Research Commission for the purposes of evaluating the impact of the credit.
