This bill would increase the maximum amount of salary that city council members can receive based on the population of the city. The current salary caps, which have not been adjusted since 1984, would be increased to account for inflation since then. The bill would allow city council salaries to be increased by the greater of either 5% per year since the last adjustment or an amount equal to inflation since 2024, not to exceed 10% per year. The bill also requires the city council to consider the adoption of an ordinance to increase council member compensation in open session during at least two regular meetings.
