AI Summary
This bill, known as the "Josh Siems Act," requires hospitals in Maryland to include testing for fentanyl as part of the urine drug screening for patients who are being treated for a known or suspected drug overdose. The bill mandates that if the urine drug screening detects fentanyl, the hospital must report the deidentified test results to the state's designated health information exchange. The bill provides an exception for hospitals that do not have the necessary chemical analyzer equipment to conduct the fentanyl testing. Additionally, the bill does not affect any existing state laws that provide civil or criminal immunity to individuals who are in need of medical assistance after using alcohol or drugs, or to those who assist others in such situations.
