This bill requires school districts and charter schools that receive funding for student support services personnel to develop a plan to conduct developmentally appropriate, evidence-based mental health and substance use disorder screenings on students in kindergarten through grade 12. The bill requires districts and charter schools to notify parents about the screening plan and obtain parental consent before conducting the screening. If a student's screening results are positive, the district or charter school must notify the parent and provide a copy of the results and a list of available resources. The bill also allows the use of student support services funding to cover the costs of the required screenings.
