This bill enacts a new section of the Public Health Act to create and operate school-based health centers. The Department of Health will provide funding, technical assistance, clinical oversight, and other support for the creation and operation of these centers. The centers will be established in schools or within safe walking distance, based on need, operator availability, and support from local educational authorities. The centers will provide primary care, preventive care, treatment of minor and chronic conditions, mental health care, substance use disorder assessments and treatment, and referrals for additional services. The Department of Health will adopt rules to regulate, operate, and oversee the school-based health centers receiving funding.
