This bill, the North Platte Canteen Congressional Gold Medal Act, proposes to award a Congressional Gold Medal collectively to the individuals and communities who volunteered or donated items to the North Platte Canteen in North Platte, Nebraska, during World War II from December 25, 1941, to April 1, 1946. The North Platte Canteen was one of the largest volunteer efforts of World War II, serving over 6 million US troops traveling across the country and providing them with food and other items. The bill recognizes the significant contributions of the over 55,000 volunteers, mostly women, who donated time and resources to support the troops. The gold medal would be presented to the Lincoln County Historical Museum in North Platte, and the Treasury Department would be authorized to strike and sell bronze duplicate medals to cover the costs.
