This bill establishes the Task Force to Study Murder Prevention and Reduction in Maryland. The Task Force will consist of members from the state legislature, law enforcement, public defender's office, and various state agencies and community organizations. The Task Force will study the causes of murder in the state, examine the effectiveness of existing violence prevention programs and laws, review accessibility to mental health and substance abuse treatment, and make recommendations on ways to address the root causes of violence, strengthen firearms laws, expand mental health services, enhance law enforcement and community collaboration, and promote equality and justice for marginalized communities. The Task Force will submit an interim report by December 1, 2023, and a final report by December 1, 2024, to the Governor's Office and the General Assembly.
