This bill amends the Hispanic Education Act in New Mexico to create the Hispanic Education Fund, a non-reverting fund in the state treasury. The fund will consist of appropriations, gifts, grants, and donations, and the income from the investment of the fund will be credited to the general fund. The Department of Public Education will administer the fund and disburse the money as necessary to further the purposes of the Hispanic Education Act, which include improving public school education for Hispanic students, increasing parent involvement and community engagement, and increasing the number of Hispanic high school graduates who succeed in post-secondary education. The bill also expands the membership of the Hispanic Education Advisory Council and allows its members to receive per diem and mileage as provided for other non-salaried public officers.
