This bill creates a statewide initiative to promote teacher preparation programs aimed at underrepresented groups, including minorities, males, and those in rural, isolated, or impoverished areas. The West Virginia State Board of Education and county boards of education are required to develop initiatives to attract these underrepresented groups to become educators. The bill also establishes a scholarship fund, the "Scholarship Fund for Underrepresented Groups as Educators," which will provide scholarships to eligible applicants from these groups who are pursuing education degrees. The scholarship program is administered by the senior administrator and funded through $10 million in annual appropriations from the state general revenue fund.
