AN ACT to amend the real property tax law, in relation to veterans alternative exemption

This bill amends the real property tax law to allow disabled veterans to receive a property tax exemption regardless of whether they served during a "period of war." The bill expands the definition of "veteran" to include those who served for more than 185 days and received a disability rating of 60% or greater from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense. The real property tax exemptions authorized by this bill will first apply to assessment rolls prepared on or after August 30, 2008.
