This bill exempts the purchase of basic school supplies, such as book bags, textbooks, pens, pencils, and calculators, from the state sales tax during the 15-day period immediately preceding Labor Day each year. The bill also allows local governments to provide a similar sales tax exemption for school supplies during this same time period. The exemption applies to purchases of less than $110 per item.
