This bill seeks to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the 761st Tank Battalion, also known as the "Black Panthers," in recognition of their crucial role in the success of Allied forces in Europe during World War II. The 761st Tank Battalion was the first predominantly Black American armored unit to serve in the European Theater and faced resistance from many top-level American politicians and military officers. Despite this, the unit served valiantly under Lieutenant General George S. Patton, enduring 183 days of combat without being pulled from the line and playing a crucial role in numerous battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. The bill also authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to strike and sell duplicates of the gold medal in bronze, with the proceeds going to the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund.
