This bill permits the practice of "lane splitting" by motorcycles under certain conditions. Lane splitting refers to a motorcycle driving between rows of stopped or slow-moving vehicles in the same lane. The bill allows lane splitting when traffic is traveling at 10 mph or less, and the motorcycle does not exceed 10 mph above the current traffic flow. The bill requires the motorcycle to merge into traffic once the 10 mph lane-splitting speed limit is reached. The bill also authorizes the state administrator to develop rules and regulations to carry out the law, and the provisions of the bill will sunset (expire) on January 28, 2024.
