This bill amends the Government Code to provide an exception to the requirement that employers of retired teachers from the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) pay certain amounts to the TRS when employing those retirees. The exception applies to retirees who retired before September 1, 2005, or to retirees employed by school districts experiencing teacher shortages, as determined by the Texas Education Agency. The changes apply to all TRS retirees, regardless of when they retired, and take effect beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.
