This bill prohibits individuals from representing themselves as social workers unless they possess certain academic qualifications, such as a degree from an accredited school of social work. It also prohibits employers or principals from representing their employees or agents as social workers unless the employee or agent meets the academic requirements. The bill provides an exception for individuals who were classified as social workers by their employers prior to January 1, 2024, until January 1, 2029. Violations of these provisions are considered unfair business practices and misdemeanors, and the Board of Behavioral Sciences can take legal action against violators. The bill also makes a nonsubstantive change to the existing law regarding the licensure of clinical social workers.
