This bill amends the existing Iowa public records law to require the lawful custodian of public records to promptly provide the requester with the custodian's contact information, an approximate date for the records release, an estimate of any reasonable fees, and any expected delay in production of the public records upon receiving a request. The bill also clarifies that the custodian cannot require the physical presence of the person requesting the records and must make reasonable efforts to provide the records at no cost beyond copying fees for records that take less than 30 minutes to produce.
