This bill creates provisions relating to maternal care in Missouri. It establishes a Fetal and Infant Mortality Review process for local public health agencies to investigate infant deaths and requires them to report infant deaths to the local public health agency annually. The bill also creates a Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review Board within the Department of Health and Senior Services to improve data collection and reporting on maternal deaths. Additionally, the bill requires the Department to establish a program to contract with programs that train certified nurse midwives and professional midwives to increase the number of students receiving quality education and training. The bill creates two new funds, the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Fund and the Midwifery Education Fund, to support these initiatives.
