Bill Summary
STATE TREASURER -- Amends existing law to provide that idle moneys may be invested in physical gold and silver in certain instances.
AI Summary
This bill amends existing law to allow the state treasurer to invest idle moneys in the state treasury in physical gold and silver, in addition to the other investment options currently available. The gold and silver must be maintained securely in a depository located within the geographical boundaries of the state or in a contiguous state if no suitable depository exists in-state. The bill also requires the gold and silver holdings to be insured, independently audited, and physically segregated from other assets. The bill declares an emergency and states that it will take effect on July 1, 2023.
