AI Summary

This bill amends Georgia's laws on alimony and child support to authorize support and insurance policies for dependent adult children. The key provisions include: defining a "dependent adult child" as an unmarried individual over the age of majority who is incapable of self-support due to a physical or mental incapacity; allowing legal proceedings to be brought by parents, custodians, guardians, or the dependent adult child themselves to establish support; providing guidelines for the court to consider in determining the amount of support, including the child's income and assets, their care needs, and available resources and programs; allowing the court to modify the support obligation if there is a substantial change in the parent's or child's ability to provide support; authorizing the court to irrevocably assign the support to a special needs trust to maintain the child's government benefits; and requiring the support to be in addition to, not in lieu of, any other benefits or assistance the dependent adult child may receive. The bill also allows the court to require either or both parents to maintain life insurance for the benefit of a dependent adult child.
