This bill modifies the deadlines for filing a declaration of candidacy. Specifically, it changes the opening filing date from the 17th Tuesday prior to the election to the 16th Tuesday prior, and the closing filing date from the 14th Tuesday prior to the election to the 13th Tuesday prior, or the next day if the 13th Tuesday is a state or federal holiday. The bill also requires the political subdivision or special district calling an election to notify the public of the opening and closing filing dates before the 16th Tuesday prior to the election.
