Bill Summary

STATE GOVERNMENT AND STATE AFFAIRS -- Adds to existing law to prohibit public contracts with companies that boycott certain business sectors.

AI Summary

This bill adds a new section to Idaho law that prohibits public entities from entering into contracts worth $100,000 or more with companies that have 10 or more full-time employees if those companies are engaged in boycotting certain business sectors, such as fossil fuel-based energy, agriculture, and firearms manufacturing. The bill provides exemptions for public entities if the requirements would be inconsistent with their constitutional or statutory duties or contrary to their business needs. It also prohibits public entities from disfavoring companies that engage in or support these business sectors. The bill declares an emergency and is effective starting July 1, 2023.
