This bill amends the Texas Insurance Code to require health benefit plans that provide coverage for general anesthesia to also cover general anesthesia services for certain pediatric dental procedures. The bill applies to a wide range of health plans, including individual, group, and government-sponsored plans. It specifies that coverage must be provided for general anesthesia services for children under 13 who are unable to undergo the dental procedure without anesthesia due to a documented physical, mental, or medical reason. The bill does not require plans to cover the dental procedures themselves, only the associated general anesthesia services. The provisions of the bill will apply to health plans delivered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2024, and the bill takes effect on September 1, 2023.
