This bill amends the Texas Penal Code to increase the criminal penalty for the offense of burglary of a vehicle involving the theft of a firearm. Specifically, it makes the offense a third-degree felony if the actor committed theft of a firearm during the commission of the burglary. The bill also defines "firearm" as having the meaning assigned by Section 46.01 of the Penal Code. The changes in the law apply only to offenses committed on or after the effective date of September 1, 2023.
