AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to conditional release for eligible offenders who complete post-secondary degrees or programs

AI Summary

This bill amends the Correction Law to provide for the conditional release of eligible offenders 12 months before the completion of their controlling minimum period of imprisonment if they complete post-secondary degrees or programs. Specifically, the bill allows offenders subject to an indeterminate sentence with a maximum term of life imprisonment to be eligible for release 12 months earlier for each successive significant programmatic accomplishment, and it allows other eligible offenders to be eligible for release 12 months earlier for each such accomplishment.
