This bill proposes to amend the New York state constitution to increase the term of office for members of the state legislature from two years to four years. Specifically, it would provide that senators elected in 2024 and subsequent years, as well as assembly members elected in 2024 and subsequent years, would hold their offices for four-year terms, rather than the current two-year terms. The amendments would need to be referred to the next regular legislative session after the next general election of assembly members and published three months prior to that election, as required by the state constitution.
