This bill amends the Executive Law to establish a program within the Division of Criminal Justice Services to cover the cost of veterinary care for retired law enforcement dogs for the remainder of their lifetime. The program defines "retired law enforcement dogs" as those previously used by law enforcement or correctional agencies in New York for activities like criminal detection, law enforcement, or apprehension of offenders. To be eligible, the dogs must have served for at least 5 years, been injured, or trained in THC detection. The bill requires the Division to promulgate rules and regulations to implement the program, which will be subject to appropriation.
