This bill amends the Texas Education Code to exempt certain paramedics employed by a political subdivision from paying tuition and laboratory fees when enrolled in one or more courses as part of an emergency medical services curriculum at a public institution of higher education. The exemption has some limitations, such as not applying to additional tuition charges or to distance education courses exceeding 20% of the maximum enrollment. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board is required to adopt rules governing the granting and denial of the exemption, including prescribing the necessary educational attainment or certification level for paramedics to qualify. The bill applies beginning with the 2023 fall semester.
