This bill creates the Year-round School Pilot Program for a period of 4 school years beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. The program aims to assist school districts in establishing year-round school programs in at least one elementary school and to study the issues, benefits, and schedule options for instituting year-round school programs for all students. School districts must apply to the Department of Education to participate, and the Commissioner of Education will select 5 school districts representing a variety of demographics. Participating districts must implement a single-track or multi-track schedule and provide data to the Department to assess the academic and safety benefits, as well as potential barriers, of year-round schooling. Upon completion of the program, the Commissioner will report the findings and provide a recommendation on adopting year-round school programs for all students.
