AI Summary
This bill:
Amends the Professional Nursing Law to further define terms like "advanced practice registered nurse-certified nurse practitioner" (APRN-CNP) and expand the scope of practice for APRN-CNPs. It allows APRN-CNPs who have at least 3 years and 3,600 hours of experience collaborating with a physician to practice independently as licensed independent practitioners within their population focus area, without the need for a written collaborative agreement with a physician.
The bill also establishes the Rural Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Health Care Access Program, which allows eligible APRN-CNPs who have at least 3 years and 3,600 hours of experience collaborating with a physician to practice independently as primary care providers in designated rural areas of Pennsylvania, without the need for a written collaborative agreement. The program requires these rural APRN-CNPs to complete additional continuing education requirements and imposes certain duties and accountabilities on them.
The bill also makes other changes related to the regulation and oversight of APRN-CNPs and their practice, including provisions around licensing, prescriptive authority, and liability coverage.
