This bill proposes a referendum to the people of the State of Texas on the question of whether Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation. If the referendum is approved by voters, the bill establishes the Texas Independence Committee, a joint interim committee tasked with studying and making recommendations on amending the Texas Constitution and statutes to accommodate the needs of an independent nation, as well as negotiating transitional issues with the United States government. The committee is required to report its findings and recommendations to the legislature by December 31, 2024, and the committee is abolished on January 1, 2025.
