Bill Summary

An Act relating to timber sales.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Alaska Statutes to allow the commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources to expedite the sale of timber that has lost economic value due to insect infestation, disease, or the effects of fire or fire suppression activities. It also allows the commissioner to negotiate the sale of timber to local manufacturers or users of wood fiber at less than the appraised value, as long as the stumpage rate is not less than the base price established by regulation and is redetermined every five years. Additionally, the bill repeals a section of the existing law and requires the Department of Natural Resources to report to the legislature on certain aspects of timber sales conducted under the amended statutes.
