This bill amends the Family Code to require the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) to provide more timely and comprehensive notification to parents and their attorneys, as well as other key stakeholders, regarding significant events related to children in the department's managing conservatorship. Specifically, the bill requires DFPS to notify parents and their attorneys within 24 hours of a significant change in a child's medical condition, enrollment in a drug research program, initial prescription of a psychotropic medication, or change in the child's placement. Additionally, DFPS must provide 48-hour notice before changing a child's residential child-care facility and notify relevant parties, including parents and their attorneys, of any other significant event affecting the child within 48 hours. The bill also requires DFPS to document all notifications and attempted notifications in the child's case record.
