This bill amends the Government Code to provide an exception to the requirement for certain retirees of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas to pay amounts to their reporting employers when they resume employment with a school district. The exception applies to retirees who retired before September 1, 2005, or on or after that date if their employment qualifies for an exception to the loss of benefit payments and the reporting employer demonstrates it cannot reasonably fill the position with someone other than a temporary worker. The changes in law made by this bill apply to all retirees of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, regardless of when they retired, and take effect beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.
