It allows licensed school nurses to delegate the authority to administer treatment for low blood sugar and monitor symptoms of students with type 1 diabetes to trained health assistants, under the direct supervision of the school nurse. The bill also specifies that the delivery of insulin must be administered by a licensed school nurse, and that glucose monitoring and insulin delivery may be done in the classroom by a trained and licensed school nurse if deemed appropriate by the student's family and physician. Additionally, the bill requires all school staff to be trained annually to administer treatment for low blood sugar and monitor symptoms.
