This bill amends the Family Code to expand the capacity of certain minors to consent to examination and postpartum or contraception-related medical treatment. Specifically, it adds a new provision allowing unmarried, pregnant or recently pregnant minors to consent to postpartum medical treatment, as well as unmarried minors who are mothers to consent to examination or contraception-related medical treatment, other than abortion. The bill also makes some other minor changes to the existing law regarding minors' consent to medical treatment. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote of all members elected to each house of the Texas Legislature, or otherwise on September 1, 2023.
