This bill establishes a Special Commission to Re-Imagine School Assessment and Accountability. The commission will review the Commonwealth's current assessment and accountability system, including provisions in state law that affect student, school, and district evaluation. The commission will examine federal requirements, alternative assessment and accountability systems used in other states, and research on what various stakeholders want students to know and be able to do upon high school graduation. The commission will develop recommendations, including proposed amendments to state law, on the Commonwealth's future education assessment and accountability system. The commission will include various state and local education officials as well as representatives from education organizations. Prior to issuing recommendations, the commission will conduct at least 8 public hearings across the state to gather input on alternative assessment and accountability systems.
