This bill establishes a Pesticide Control Modernization and Environmental Protection Task Force to study the commonwealth's statutes, regulations, and practices governing pesticide control. The task force will consist of various state officials and representatives from organizations related to environmental protection, agriculture, and pesticide use. The task force will review and make recommendations to improve the ability of the commonwealth to prevent and mitigate adverse impacts of pesticide use on the environment and public health, including the structure and operation of the Pesticide Board and Pesticide Board Subcommittee, the relationship with federal regulators, the effectiveness of current laws, the implementation of pesticide use reduction and reporting, and opportunities to expand integrated pest management and organic practices. The task force will file its findings and recommendations with the legislature by March 31, 2024.
