This bill aims to update the regulations governing licensed birth centers in Massachusetts. It would amend the state's public health laws to include the American College of Nurse Midwives and the American Association of Birth Centers as entities that the Department of Public Health must consult when promulgating revised regulations for licensed birth centers. The new regulations would address requirements for transfer plans, coordination of care, provider supervision, administrative and clinical oversight, and the types of licensed providers that can attend births at birth centers. The Department of Public Health must issue the revised regulations within 180 days of the bill's effective date.
